OWL Caring for Children NPC (OCFC) provides equipment and treatment for children with disabilities. We currently service children with a wide range of impairments, activity limitations, and participation restrictions caused by disability. Since people with disabilities face barriers in accessing the health and rehabilitation services they need, OWL Caring for Children NPC aims to support our community of disabled children and children who come from previously disadvantaged backgrounds and assist in alleviating the financial strain placed on the families due to their complex needs.
Assistive devices and technologies maintain or improve an individual’s functioning and independence to facilitate participation and can also help prevent impairments and secondary health conditions. Assistive technology is crucial in helping a child succeed and transition to independent adulthood. OWL Caring for Children aims to provide the following assistive and adapted equipment for children with disabilities.
This include
- Mobility Equipment – Walkers, standing frames, non-electric wheelchairs, electric wheelchairs, hoists, and transfer aids
- Equipment to help with daily activities: specialised toilet seats, safety bars, and bathing benches in the bathroom, seating equipment
- Communication equipment: electronic communication boards, low-tech communication boards, speech-generating devices, and eye-tracking devices
- Feeding assistance – PEG feeding equipment, Syringes, special utensils the child with disabilities needs for assistive devices are assessed by a team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech therapists.
OWL Caring for Children aims to assist families in paying for these therapies in order for their needs to be assessed and to allow for training the child in how to use the equipment appropriately. Furthermore, these therapies assist in developing skills for participation in activities of daily living.
About Us
OWL Caring for Children (OCFC) was created after Barbara & Monika Wassermeier opened their own special needs Learning centre called OWL – Occupation, Wellness and Learning.
OWL opened its doors in July 2016 and has capacity for 32 children. They pride their success on small classrooms, great staff, and individual programs for each child and lots of love.
They shortly realized the desperate need in the greater community for children with Special Needs and a Non-Profit Company (NPC) – OWL Caring for Children NPC was established to help as many special needs children as possible and their families.
Mission
OCFC aims to raise funds for children and their families who are in desperate need of support and to create awareness for children with special needs in our greater community and support other similar organisations.
Raising a child with special needs can be demanding, stressful and overwhelming for parents and families. Special needs children not only need specialised equipment but continues therapy sessions, doctor appointments with costly medical bills, special food, caregiving, and special education.
